Current Restrictions
There will be some restrictions in how SCMS operates, and these are listed below. These restrictions mirror what the Department of Education and other schooling systems in our state will adopt.
Principal's Report
As we come to the end of a big week and a wonderful term a couple of points of note:
Musical
As you might have seen we will use Term 3 to prepare our biennial Musical. This year we are holding a musical called Aladdin Trouble, which is a playful take on the story of Aladdin. We have now completed casting after a very fulfilling audition process.
The arts are an incredibly important part of our school, and our Musical is going to be inclusive of our whole school. From acting, singing, lights, sound, costuming, props it is going to take many members of our community to pull this together.
We need a village approach.
Each child in Year 2-7 has been offered a speaking part in the production, with all students involved in the musical at different points.
I could not commend our Upper Primary class any more who have committed to many of the major parts and their willingness to support those classmates who received larger roles, and their appetite to embrace the role they were given has been outstanding.
It is going to be an amazing musical and we will be able to confirm a date and a venue early next term. Please support your child in learning lines and blocking out the date in the calendar for the production.
It is an expectation that all students are involved on the night of the production.
Rescheduled Assembly
In part of the conversations, we have with children and staff, we encourage vulnerability. Vulnerability allows us to see inside decision making processes and allows us to understand people more fully. Being vulnerable is vitally important for us to allow us as an organisation to understand each other and hold trust in each other.
I will allow myself to be slightly vulnerable in the next few paragraphs.
Last night was challenging night for me as I reflected on the day. We made a decision based on information at the time and the advice of our system, to cancel/postpone the assembly. As I replayed the day over and over in my head, I concluded that if I had the day over again, I would still make the same decisions, based on the info I had at each point of the day.
That did not unfortunately make my night any easier as I reflected on the idea that the decision led to some disappointment amongst students, staff and our community. Thankfully, our community is incredibly understanding of some of these tough calls, but still no one was more disappointed than myself last night about not getting to see some of the hard work come to fruition and acknowledge a huge influence in my own life in Mrs Wilkey.
As such, we have decided as a community to reschedule the assembly to Wednesday the 28th of July at 9:15am. It is important that we do not let a moment like this pass and the Junior and Senior Choirs are desperate to perform what they have prepared.
I am so much looking forward to it.
Uniform
A gentle reminder of the note sent out earlier in the week which asks for some parent input about our current Hair Policy.
Please refer to the note sent out earlier in the week and email me at your earliest convenience if you have any feedback to offer.
Please work with me over the holidays in sending your students back to school within the terms of our current policy, which encourages hair to be 'neat and tidy'.
Holidays
Time for a recharge. It has been a great term and the learning at our school is at the strongest level in my time here. Through the engagement of Mini-Lit and InitiaLit in our Junior Primary, Plus the 7 Steps program in our Upper Primary we are seeing cohesiveness across our school, which in turn is leading to strong student attainment in our end of semester testing. We can then use that data to help program for the second semester.
We will see you all for Term 3.
God Bless,
Scott March

ADMIN NEWS:
Firstly, we would like to welcome Nicole Redman to the Admin team. Nicki has proved to be a star asset to the front office already with her knowledge of how an office runs; dealing with children and parents’ queries; and the requirements of dealing with sick or injured children. Please be kind to her as she navigates the procedures of working in a school office.
REMINDER:
As with every term, there will be an early dismissal for all students, at 2 pm, in line with Yorketown Area School and Warooka Primary School.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
All children will be required to wear their ‘sports’ uniform for the first week of Term 3. Children will be involved with Footsteps Dance on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and the SYP SAPSASA Basketball Carnival at Minlaton on Friday.
DECD’S BUSES:
Just a reminder for parents regarding the use of the DECD buses run by Yorketown Area School -
-
If your child/children travel on DECD’s buses to and from school on a regular basis it is a requirement to have a permission from Yorketown Area School to do so.
-
If your child/children are required to travel on a bus that is not their regular bus, parents are required to contact the Yorketown Area School for permission.
-
If your child/children have a termly permission to travel on a designated bus (not their regular bus), and then do not use that bus, parents are required to advise Yorketown Area School this will be happening.
With children travelling on buses, if for ANY reason (fire, flat tyre, etc. etc.), parents have to be notified. The bus drivers need to know who is on the bus and where the students are travelling to.
No lunch orders available from the Yorketown Area School canteen tomorrow, due to a planned Sausage Sizzle by the Parents and Friends/Gather and Grow group. A gold coin donation would be appreciated. Reminder that children are able to wear casual clothes tomorrow.
