Principal's Report
Dear Families
As you know in the past week we lost a much-loved staff member in Deb. It’s been a complex week for the staff and the students to work through our emotions, and continue on with everyday school life. Thank you to the parents who have reached out for support during this time.
Deb never shirked a challenge at work and regularly worked with children who required behaviour, literacy and numeracy support. We have certainly missed her artistic abilities when designing and painting the props. She had an eye for detail like no one else at our school.
Our prayers continue to be with Deb’s daughters and family through this challenging time. We are working through the process of a short celebration of Deb’s life to be held with the children at school.
Miriam’s reflection in this newsletter is a beautiful reflection of Deb’s work at our school, and how she conducted herself amongst our staff.
Notes for the Weeks Ahead
It’s been a challenging week at work but the busyness of Term 4 as provided a timely distraction. Our rehearsal down at the Light Church went very well. The children adapted well to the lights, microphones and stage but it was a long day to work through this.
A reminder about the week ahead:
Tuesday: Whole School Rehearsal
This rehearsal will include props, costumes, lights and will be our final run through before performance night. It is going to be a big day for the students. The transport arrangements worked well on Tuesday so we will continue with the same process. Thank you to those families who were able to drop children at Edithburgh.
Thursday: Matinee Performance
Our Matinee performance is at 11:30am. In some earlier correspondence this was 12pm, however to organise all children to be back at school by 3pm it will need to start at 11:30am. This is not a ticketed event and all are welcome to come. It’s a perfect opportunity to bring along grandparents or members of the community who might struggle with the lateness of a night time performance.
Students will get dressed into their costumes and out of their costumes. On the night of the performance they can come in casual clothes before getting changed into their costume at the church.
Night Performance
Students will need to arrive at the Light Church by 6:15pm at the latest. There will be some students who will be asked to come in earlier to have stage make up applied. The doors will open at 6:45pm. We will have a list of ticket holders but please print off your tickets prior to coming in. There is plenty of room.
The Gather and Grow will be selling Coffee and Cake/Scrolls prior to the performance so please bring some small change if you would like a snack.
It would be beneficial for your children to have an early tea before the performance If possible.
The performance should conclude by 8:30pm. Please be patient after the performance as we get children out of costume.
Performance Reflection
Please understand this is an event is being performed by children. They are not professional actors. As teachers we are not professional theatre directors. We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved as a whole school with the children, but part of the process is the mistakes that may happen on the night, and children having the ability to work through them. It might be a microphone malfunctioning, a skipped line or a prop falling over. It could be the computer controlling the sound freezing during a song. The beauty of live performance is watching children develop their resilience to work through these issues. That doesn’t mean as adults we step back but we try to find the line of jumping into help, and letting a child work through a challenge. It’s what you guys as parents do on a daily basis. The challenge between independence and support is a tricky one.
3/4/5 Camp
What an experience our Year 3/4/5’s had on camp! The highlights video looked outstanding and I think we found a little gem of a camp that we will certainly be returning too. Thank you to Amy, Angela, Dan and Bec for their supervision of the children and the organisation of the camp. It is a huge responsibility taking children on camp so thank you for putting the trust in us.
If your student is in Year 1/2 or 6/7 please return any camp paperwork as soon as possible.
God Bless,
Scott

Lunch Orders
Can you please ensure your child's details are up to date on the Qkr! app, in particular their year level. This will make things quicker and easier when sorting the lunches into the appropriate year levels.

Junior Primary News
In the Junior Primary classes we have been looking at the Story of Christmas and the people who play a significant role in this important event. This week in Art we created a picture of Mary using water colour pencils.

Library News
