Students are making great progress in their construction of an arcade game. The inspiration comes from Caine, a 10 year old boy who in his holidays decided to open his own arcade in his dads spare parts shop. Everyone loved watching the documentary which we highly recommend (Caines Arcade). The students can’t wait to show you their finished products in the coming weeks

Middle Primary News

Hello…

These past couple of weeks we have had the pleasure of having Miss Danielle McGrath in our class while Mrs G-O has been on long service leave. The students have been amazing in making her feel welcome and have settled into her lessons and are having some great learning experiences.

With Mrs Honner, the year 3/4 class have been exploring the topic of Social Awareness in Health with lessons on social cues and expectations, empathy, peer pressure and in the next two weeks, conflict resolution and anti-bullying. These are very important lessons to explore and discuss, as learning good skills in these areas sets them up for life as I’m sure we can all agree.

We have decided to have a ‘Cook and Feast Day’ on the last day of term where we have chosen a menu and will work together on making it and then feasting on it as a celebration for all our hard work this semester. More information to come!

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Miriam Honner

Principal's Report

23 June 2022

Dear Families,

As we move through Week 8 we reach the half way mark for the year. It’s been a big term behind the scenes. It’s also been an incredible semester of growth for our school. After we welcome our Mid-Year Reception students next term, we would have welcomed over 30 new students to our school over the course of the year and over 15 new families.

Our learning program this term has been terrific, and it will excitingly culminate with a Learning Expo for our Year 5/6/7’s in Week 10.

I couldn’t be more proud of the way our staff have responded to the staffing challenges of this term. Education across Australia is in a very precarious situation at the moment as COVID-19 has exacerbated the already existing teacher shortage across the nation. Fortunately our staff have been flexible in working across different classes, picking up relief days when needed, or taking the Acting Principal role when I have been away. They are a great bunch and their flexibility and willingness to work together has allowed our children to have a steady term of learning, with minimal disruptions.

Staffing

As you may have seen on Facebook we have advertised for two positions. The first is a Mid-Year Reception teacher. For all those who have texted or emailed worried that Jorja is leaving…she’s not. This teacher is to support our growing Mid-Year intake of Receptions. We have 7 students joining our Reception class mid-year to join our wonderful Reception class.

The 2nd is for a Maintenance position at our school. This 10 hour a week position involves taking care of the general upkeep of the school, as well as the odd maintenance job. Both of these positions can be found later in the newsletter.

SAPSASA

We continue to be well represented at SAPSASA level by our Upper Primary students. We have had involvement with students at SAPSASA Football, Netball, Hockey and Cross Country this term. Next term we will have the annual SAPSASA Basketball carnival as well as hopefully the SAPSASA Athletics Trials (In Place of Interschool). This is currently being decided amongst the Principals this Friday.

COVID-19

Across this term we have had approximately 10 children test positive to COVID, as well as 3 staff. Many of these didn’t attend site in their infectious period. We have not had any significant outbreaks on school site and no evidence of spread on site.

Fortunately, the school has been able to provide learning packs for these children and families which has offered them some continuity of learning throughout this time.

We expect the challenge of this to continue through into Term 3 and beyond.

CAPITAL WORKS PROJECT

Our new Junior Primary classroom is expected to commence sometime in Term 3. The whole project went to tender last month. Currently we are in the final negotiations with the tenderers to secure a price and starting date for the project. This is an incredibly exciting venture for us as a school. We would expect minimal disruption to our site during this time as we will still have access to the school hall and all classroom areas.

Kind Regards,

Scott
