Hello!

And we are nearly done for the year… wow!

Last night we held our Graduation mass for our Year 7 graduates and their families. It was, like every year, a beautiful moment to sit and reflect on the students and how far they have all come. Some we have known since reception, others starting with us a little later, but all finishing part of our St Columba’s Memorial School family. It is my hope that as these students leave our little school and start their journey to the big wide world, that they are able to take something with them to help guide them in their lives. That they know just how much they are loved by God and that He will never let them down. That Jesus will always be with them, cheering them on, helping them, supporting them and loving them. I hope that they know that St Columba’s will always be here for them, that they are always welcome back to say hello and that we will be cheering them on as they grow and achieve their dreams. Good luck and Nukkunya Abby, Brock, Mitchell, Joe, Kate, Kaleb, Kaitlin, Emily, and Sarah!

Thank you to all the families and friends for another wonderful year. Thank you for all your support and kindness and I pray that you have a beautiful Christmas filled with love, peace and joy.

See you in 2022!

This term the Year 3/4 Class has been working on book reviews. As a class we reviewed some of the class texts before each student selected one of their favourite books to review.

It was such a valuable experience for the students to analyse various books from different perspectives. From this, each of the students have expanded their reading repertoire because of the recommendations given by their peers.

They have been proudly been on display in our school library for the past two weeks.

Last Thursday the Year 6 students prepared an amazing lunch for the departing Year 7’s, staff and Indigenous Artists from Carclew. The 3 course meal was of an impressive standard and with the help of Jo Minks, the Year 6 students prepared an experience that was both memorable and delicious. Thank you to Jo and the Year 6 students!

Middle and Upper Primary - Remembrance Day

18 November 2021

On Thursday the 11th of November, the 3/4/5 students attended the Yorketown Remembrance Day Service. Due to the weather conditions, the service was held inside the RSL. Six of our students read 'I saw a boy marching' and two others were asked to lay a wreath on behalf of the school.

It was a beautiful service, that truly honoured armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

Lest we forget.

Hello!

Last week we held a whole school mass for Remembrance day. It was a beautiful way to enter into this solemn occasion to pray for and give thanks to those who have sacrificed so much for us and our Nation. The Students spoke beautifully and answered Fr John’s questions with respect and understanding. It was our last whole school mass for the year and it amazes me that we have come to that time of year again. Our next mass will be just for our Year 7 graduates and their families on December 1.

In just over a week, on Sunday November 28, we start the season of Advent. These four weeks before Christmas are meant as a time of preparation and reflection on just what Christmas day is truly about. Whilst we all enjoy the food and drink, gifts, pageants, carols, Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey.. (well that’s a bit of a stretch for some of us!) .. it’s so much more than that. No other religion proclaims a God that becomes human, that enters into our broken world and shares in life’s ups and downs. What does that mean then? What is it about an omnipotent God becoming a little baby, so in need of help and love, teach us about love and life? Maybe this is a great opportunity to spend time this Advent talking to your children about this and reflecting as a family about what Christmas truly is about and how we can live it better. Step out of the hustle and bustle and into peace and calm and joy.

God Bless,

Miriam
