Spanish News

01 June 2022

In Spanish speaking countries, people have 2 last names, one from their father and the other from their mother. For example if your father’s name is John Davis and your mother’s name is Laurel Cunningham  then your name would be Peter Davis Cunningham.  See if you can work out  what your Spanish last names would be. You would have your Christian name, then your father’s last name, then your grandfather’s last name on your mother’s side.

An example: Mark Peters married Mary Jones and had a baby girl Sue. Her name would be Sue Peters Johns.

What is your Spanish name??

SAPSASA Netball

26 May 2022

Today our year 5/6s competed in SAPSASA Netball at Minlaton. Three of our students were competing for selection in the SAPSASA team and performed brilliantly. Each of the girls gave all positions a go, often playing positions they wouldn't usually play. We are extremely proud of how our students conducted themselves as representatives of the school and the sportsmanship that was displayed. Well done girls!

Principal's Report

26 May 2022

Hi all,

We come to the end of a busy first four weeks at SCMS as we move through Term 2.

COVID-19 Update

This week we were given a direction from Catholic Education via SA Health that masks will no longer be required on site. This means that teachers, students, and visitors on site will no longer be required to wear a mask. While it is not mandatory, it is still recommended so you may still see students, staff and adults who choose to do so. Please respect their decision.

What’s going on with the building project?

Recently our capital works project went to Tender. Within a few weeks we will hopefully have confirmed a company who will be managing the building works on our site. Over the past couple of weeks, we have had various tradespeople from both SYP and Adelaide visiting our site to prepare their quotes for their work.

The work will be completed in 3 stages:

Stage 1

New Junior Primary Building, JP Productive Garden and Breakout Spaces, and Toilet Block

Stage 2

Upper Primary Refurbishment, Learning Deck and Breakout Spaces

Stage 3

School Entrance, School Piazza, Nature Play Space, School Gates and Fence

We expect these works to begin by Mid August.

What else is going on?

Over the course of the past few days, I have been fortunate enough to be involved in a Catholic Education project held in Brisbane.

The Leading with Integrity Program held by the Brown Collective brought together 50 principals from various states and territories around Australia to discuss elements of Governance crucially important to our system. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to meet some inspiring leaders and pick their brains about initiatives that we can bring to our patch here at SCMS.

Over the next two weeks I’ll undertake Long Service Leave. As indicated previously Miram Honner will be Acting Principal in Week 5 with Emily Rowe acting in that capacity in Week 6.

Please contact them via email (mhonner@... and erowe@....) if you require any support with your children over the next two weeks.

SAPSASA

Over the past few weeks we have had students involved in SAPSASA Footy and Netball.

SAPSASA has seen a recent overhaul which prioritises local involvement with netball and football carnivals being held regionally to help select squads.

This is a great initiative and we have been fortunate to have strong student involvement.

Prayers

Finally I want to offer my thoughts and prayers to the families, staff, students and all those impacted in America by the shooting at a Primary School in Texas.

On hearing the news on Wednesday morning, I instantly had a knot in my stomach as I thought about the lives that will be changed by such devastation.

Let’s pray that such an awful, but ultimately avoidable tragedy can lead to some government action that supports the lives of these young people.

In our own local context, it’s important to shield our young people as much as we can from the media coverage of such a tragedy. If your child/ren do want to chat to you about it, use your judgement as a parent to decide which elements you want to explore with your child.

Ensure them that they are safe and nurtured at SCMS, and the adults on site have many levels of protection to keep them safe. It’s our most important job.

God Bless,

Scott

For maths this week, the receptions learnt about patterns. We learnt that a pattern repeats. For this maths activity students had to create a whole class pattern. They decided to do a standing up/sitting down pattern.

Senior Primary News

25 May 2022

Over the next two terms, students will have the opportunity to present health circuits which they created to the class during our P.E lessons. In pairs, the 5,6,7’s thoughtfully created fitness circuits that included 5-6 stations of physical exercises that aimed to give a full body workout. This is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate leadership skills and assist their peers in completing movements and sequences that require coordination and energy exertion. Chloe and Lexi set the bar high last week with their efforts!
