The Middle Primary Class has been working closely with Mrs Hughes to develop their understanding of the Zones of Regulation. The Zones of Regulation is an approach used to support the development of self-regulation in children. The Zones approach uses four colours to help students identify how they are feeling in any given moments based on their emotions and level of alertness as well as a way guide them to find strategies to support their regulation.
The students have been discussing common body signals and triggers to consider how their behaviour impacts those around them. Over the next few weeks, Mrs Hughes will be working with the class to learn strategies that help them improve emotional control, self-awareness and problem solving.
In the classroom, students have been adopting the Zones language and referring to themselves by what zone they are in. It has been fantastic seeing students offer suggestions as to how they can help their peers move between the zones effectively.
